Thermowell for bokakob temp sensor

Post by theskaz »

I am trying to find a way to add a DS18B20 temp sensor to a bokakob 2" column. I currently have a 1/4 in copper tube soldered to the column and have an analog dial shoved in there. I am working on an unrelated project and thought i could apply it to my still with just 1 modification.

I am thinking something along these lines, but smaller:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1x-DS18 ... 88557.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

it will be in the vapor path so im trying to ensure it is sealed and only SS. has anyone used something similar?

the ones above wont work because the tightness of the curve of the 2" column and the 1/2 thread size. I wont be able to seal it.

what diameter column did you use that on? the lead is over 2" and me thinks that you wouldnt get a seal very well.

Solder a stub with a female thread onto the column, and screw the thermowell into that...? Something like this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/1-2-in-Copp ... /100344660" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

I use the DS18B20 sensors with cable length of 2M on my concentric vapour throat body to read the temp from, also have one at the base of the column, reading off LED metors..

As the pictures indicate, I use a small piece of 3/8" copper tubing in the vapour path to hold the probe in place, with another piece of copper tubing sliced and wrapped around the probe with teflon tape to seal.. work well for me..

Mars

PS.. have them working of this style of meters..

You can make your own thermowell to suit most any situation. My local hardware stores sell small diameter, copper or brass, straight, rigid pipe/tube. Here's a link to DIY Homemade Thermowell

I installed a thermowell in a brass plug because I wanted my thermowell to be removable not permanently installed. You can permanently install a thermowell anywhere you want.

I'm sure copper would be ideal, but brass seems to work very well.
