Ok probably doesn't apply then, thought you where running more than one of those balls and had perf or bubble cap plates within them.
Packing of any kind will preform differently to plates,.

Made my first bourbon. Wimped out and stripped 12 gallons and ran a 1.5 batch with 8" packing to avoid two strips and a spirit : (

Compressed the heads and then tried to run the hearts in pot mode, wanting more flavor. Promptly pulled yuckie tails flavor? and went back to reflux. Turn down heat before, next time to try again with no tails.

Squished the tails back by turning up the heat and slowing down reflux.

87% to 72%. Included in the cuts all the tails but the super cloudy last jar and the one before.

This configuration seems to remove the bad smelling yucky tasting tails and keep the yummy grainy part. 2 jars of great wheat taste and three with corn (the last), with only a bit of noticable, but not unpleasant tails character in the background....does this map to a flute run?

20 gallons of breakfast cereal gumballhead to single run: 10 with short packed column and 10 with plate and 12" of packing-for learning and comparison purposes.....

Things I'm learning right now running a short packed column: 1. Probably been running too hard with the plate, because it won't let me flood the column. Thought I was running pretty gentle, but had too much activity on top of the packing.

2. Pretty certain I could see entrainment. Looked liked tiny weird bubbles floating/ shooting up the column.

Best to figure these things out by experience, I reckon....

I am a long ways from understanding what I like, and how to make it, but on the side by side plate with 8" packing, and 12ish inches packing, preferring the straight packing run. Nice rich flavor......

Granted It wasn't at all scientific.

And they had different amounts of feints.

And they were blended differently.

Stripping my second batch of kale sugar wash. Looking forward to running the plate under the 4' column.

Just waiting to finish my sacrificial on the gin pot.

Starting to build a perf plate.

Distilling season almost done :(

Looking forward to making some apricot brandy next year, and the the equipment I'll need to fabricate!

I seen those apricot trees.

I know where you live.. . . I been watching you for a while now.....

emptyglass's setup

Finally had a chance to run a spirit run of kale sugar wash. First time with the plate under a taller column (42 inches packed with lava). Besides having pump issues with the height, this configuration seemed to run really well! Ran pretty sedately, so an 11 gallon charge took about 6.5 hours, but the spirit is quite nice so far...

I'll probably build a 4" column because I have the pipe, but 3" seems just right for my needs!

It was cold enough I was basically hugging the keg.
