CM and VM, but what is CCVM?

Vapor, Liquid or Cooling Management. Flutes, plates, etc.

CM and VM, but what is CCVM?

Post by nick9one1 »

I think I have a good understanding of CM VM and and LM still types. But I'm not sure what CCVM is?

Is it a combination of a CM and VM, or something different entirely?
From the designs I've seen, they look like a VM without the valve?

Exactly. The reflux condenser is moved vertically in the column to cover, or expose, the vapor path to the product condenser. The operator is essentially a human valve.

Wow, that is a really outdated VM design in that pic. This is the more updated design.

It’s not outdated. It’s simply a different style of VM.

I read the description last night and it took a while to get my head around the explanation of how that particular VM worked, I initially found the explanation where he states the valve controls the flow of vapour to both the reflux and product condensors to be confusing. If I read that without the benefit of the diagram I would have pictured a valve actually on the column prior to the reflux and product condensor.
It does read correctly as the valve does regulate the amount of vapour going to the reflux condensor, but for my brain without the diagram it puts the valve in a different place.
I do love the look of that design though, all sorts of angles and coils and outlets, copper porn for sure. If I was to make a VM I would look at that design for sure.
Does anyone have any experience with the straight VM versus the (is it offset?) design VM :D

Yes, the condenser is moved by a human in a CCVM.

What is turning the handle or knob on the valve in a conventionally valved VM?

Sporicle , you may have imagined something like this .
Its YHBs build . This guy was inspirational to me . He pretty much made every component from scratch .

Wow. That's a rather involved, but awesome build.

And if I'm reading the diagram correctly that's a VM design that can do reflux ratios beyond 1:1, all the way down to pot still mode. Complicated, but damn clever.

Damn YHB...
I see this from another direction.
Just a manually operated 3-way piston valve. So simple it's brilliant.
And to actually go through with building it is just as impressive.

Ver2 of his bicycle spoke needle valve as the first had a rather large place for pooling.

Found a good amount digging last night until my eyes fell shut, but wondering why I can't find YHB in the members list or click his name and search posts. If anyone who's been here for a decade can shed light, that'd be great, otherwise I'll dig into it when I can.
