Brazing Material

Post by South Cackalackian »

I reckon this is the correct place for this question, but does any feller around here know what material i need for brazing SS to SS, and SS to copper? I tried finding it online, but im not quite the best at all that. i also tried calling the local welding outfit, no clue.

For reference: its a beer keg to ferrule, and ferrule to copper pipe.

Thank you kindly, SC

If ya go to the hardware store they have them. Silver solder brazing rods is the proper name i believe. Read the packaging it'll tell ya which metals is good for and whether you need any flux with them

Before this gets out of hand Soldering and Brazing and very different. Their are many different brazing fillers. The one I use is a 54% silver rod 45% is good also. For soldering SS to SS or SS to CU a simple silver bearing solder with a liquid acid zinc flux is fine.

I just finished up my keg build. For the ferrules on the keg, stainless to stainless where I felt I needed strength, I used https://www.harrisweldingsupplies.com/h ... 6318lmpop/ and this flux https://www.harrisweldingsupplies.com/h ... jar-ssbf1/

For copper to stainless I used solder, https://www.harrisweldingsupplies.com/h ... sb61-2pop/ and flux https://www.harrisweldingsupplies.com/h ... t-sbskpop/

The closer fit between parts you can get before you start trying to add filler the better. Hint, for the parts you braze, if you have small leaks, use solder to fill them. Solder uses much lower temps so there is no chance of melting out the braze you already put in.

Silicon bronze for helibraze or silver phosphorous to flame braze.
