Re: Cleaning Copper Mesh
This has been a very amusing post line to read. Though I wonder if anyone has tried food grade citric acid. Works better than any vinegar run. Just soak, rinse, and distill.
Re: Cleaning Copper Mesh
It's been a year since my last post on this thread. I've done nothing but drop the copper into the hot backset since. Works like a charm and I always have it after a still run. No need for 551 or even just citric acid any more.

Got me beat why people go to the trouble of using other things Rrmuf.

Re: Cleaning Copper Mesh
I'm interested but only if its cheaper than Dunder/ Backset.

Yeah, I use the citric acid too. Safe, predictable, easy, and eco friendly. It’s great for managing hi pH factors too!Snickers902 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 1:59 pm This has been a very amusing post line to read. Though I wonder if anyone has tried food grade citric acid. 2. Put it in a container least twice the size of the copper and fill 1/4 - 1/3 full with white vinegar.
3. Add one scoop of Oxyclean.
Oxiclean is a base, vinegar is an acid. All you are doing is neutralizing one with the other and making a weakly caustic or acidic solution...
Starsan is an acid blend, will clean copper fine. Be mindful to dilute it thoroughly though, copper is pretty non reactive but Dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid will eat it, so will sulferic acid and straight star san is strong. Make sure you are rinsing well when done.
The suggestions on here of using backset are golden.
