Android Calculator for distillers

Post by phrac »

Hi guys,

Not sure if this is the correct forum, but I am currently developing a simple calculator for distillers that will run on android powered devices. So far its just the dilution calculators as found on the main site, but I know that I always am using that calculator and thought it would be handy to have a pocket version that runs on your phone. I will be releasing this as a free app in the market in a few days.

My question is what other features would you like to see in this, if there is any interest at all? I was thinking of adding some conversion charts and some more of the calculators found on the parent site like boil time, %abv in the vapor, etc.

Any feedback or ideas are welcome.

I have attached a few screenshots of it below.

Just got rid of my thermometer on my pot. Trying to "uncomplicate" my life.

Still not sure 'bout them APPS. Looks like it'd be interesting but not for me thanks.

Love your work. If only we could get decent phones in NZ... Also of interest to me would be ABV @ a specific vapor temp (a nifty feature here would be a temp offset feature that you can use to specify the inaccuracy of your thermo. most cheap ones seem to be out a little, but repeatably so), and maybe a stripping yield calculator... no, actually now that I think about it that one would have to be specific to the still in question. temp correction for a standard alcometer (calibrated to 20*C) would be nice.

Welcome along as well, I take it you are normally a lurker, thanks for putting this out there for all.

What you think about an iphone app?

I think Iphones are more in use than Droids.

yes, I will be adding more calculators as I go. Temp correction for the alcoholmeter is a good idea.

Also, thanks for the warm welcome! I have lurked here for quite a while and learned to build my still from the great instructions here. I started with 2" dia x 40" LM and switched it to a VM about 6 months later. Also recently built a pot still and have been enjoying running that making UJSM for now. :D

I'll see if I can add the apps2sd feature in.

Sorry, I don't have a mac or an iPhone to develop the app with.

Anyways, you can find the app in the market by searching for "Stillmate".

Good app. Any chance of getting options for standard/ metric in a settings menu?

Nice app man, but a cell phone to me is just that, a phone...
I have an oldish (5YO) laptop that I have dedicated to home distilling. It runs a very fast OpenSuse operating system (Linux) along with an OpenOffice spreadsheet I use while I'm running the still... If I'm diluting, cutting or working on any math I need for a build, I use this laptop... That way, I have everything in one place... I'm using it atm to post on HD...

Nice app for the guys who have the hardware, but I'll stick to my laptop atm...

Thanks anyway man... :D

PS: Welcome to HD... Have fun and be safe man... :D

Really??? You're too lazy to go to the market and search for "Stillmate"? OMFG! You're in the wrong hobby if that's too much work. Don't ever try all grain mashes. LMFAO!

Just installed it and ran it.

Great program - nice interface, easy to use.

Add the starting SG - finishing SG = alcohol % calculation, and it will have everything I use.

Keep up the great work.

Good app. Works great on my Droid X.

I'd love to see the Sugar SG calculator from the main site
Homedistiller.org - Preparing a Wash - Sugar Based - Thin Wort - Method

The one where you input Sugar weight and water volume and it tells you your estimated ABV and total volume.

FWIW.

Cool app. I like that it doesn't ask for access permissions to my entire phone as well!

Thanks

What are 'android powered devices'? I must get one. :) :) :)
Simple potstiller. Slow, single run.

Got this app. It's great. Very useful.

If you're using this app, give it a rating to help the developer out.

Samohon, you're the third stiller to mention you use open source software in the short time I've been involved with this hobby. A sign of the times, or does distillin have something in common with that? More of a do it yourself mentality perhaps?
