Whiskey thief?

Post by kenfyoozed »

Ok so no, noone stole any whiskey! But I was wondering what you guys use to take a sample of the "recipie"? I know there are glass and plastic wine thiefs, but what have you made? Just thought there may be a few copper examples out there some where. You know we cant get enough copper! Any one want to show thier artistic side? :D

at this time, since I do not have any large barrels, I do not need a thief, I simply carefully pour out a shot or so to sample. However, if we do have members that have some copper porn to show, please post the pix.

I just use some 3/8" copper as a syphon. Isn't quick, but that's a good thing, makes it harder to get at your whisky.

I just made this tonight.. Pretty happy with it.
Holes are 1/4" at bottom of water hammer 1/2" cone and 3/16" at cap.

This is because I needed a way to test my 15 gallon barrel progress

Thats what I did. About a 20 inch length of copper 1/2 inch pipe. Soldered a cap on the end and drilled a small hole in the center. Draw off about an ounce at a time into a Glencairn glass for a sample.

Very nice sailman, that's quite similar to what I did but looks like you spent a little more time trying to make it really nice. I should spend more time crafting things nicely but I'm busy running a business and lazy sometimes.

I like what appears to me your dedication to cleanliness because it looks like you put the flux just enough to create a seal without having too much solder stick to the copper outside of where the fittings meet. That's a real nice touch I can appreciate that
