stupid question about soldering

Post by jmc91199 »

When I built my pot still I drilled a hole in the top of the column for a thermometer. Now I don't use the thermometer any more and I want to plug that hole. I can't seem to get solder to stick to it. I've cut a small piece of copper tube and flattened it then tried to solder it to the top of the column. I just can’t get it to stick. Any recommendations?

You can't get solder to stick to a HOLE? sorry, couldn't resist. Clean it like tater said then put the cap with the hole side down onto something solder won't stick to, like aluminum. The put he flux on the area around the hole, heat it and allow a pool to fill the hole. Let it cool and it'll be sealed.
