1 cent Copper Saddles

Post by Sparky »

I had a idea after seeing copper saddles for sale on the web. Pennies folded in half!

They clean easy, They are cheep (~ $0.70 per lb or $1.40 per kilo) and they will outlast copper mesh.

Just use U.S.pennies minted before 1983 because the were 99% + pure copper. Put them in the vise and bend them into non-consistent shapes.

They will never stack together as to block your column and there is a fair amount of surface area.

I can't be the first one to think of this. What do you think?

Oh well I tried,

Thank you for the information cob, I'll have to think of something else nobody has thought of.

I know the rolls of copper mesh works well but I was trying to substitute something more durable and maybe less coin. (pun intended)

I don't know what they make pennies out of nowadays but they feel like plastic Monopoly money to me.

No way in hell they are going into my column.

+1.

This from the US Mint website: The alloy remained 95 percent copper and 5 percent zinc until 1982, when the composition was changed to 97.5 percent zinc and 2.5 percent copper (copper-plated zinc). Cents of both compositions appeared in that year.

Zinc is easily “attacked” by acids. And it is toxic. Get those (US) pennies out of your system asap.
