Does anyone know if a standard 2" cap cover with a TC will work ? I am thinking it would be a good idea to cover the hole when its not in use.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, a 2” T/C cover plate will fit just like the 2” ferrule. A PTFE gasket and T/C clamp will seal it tight.
But I usually want it to dry out between uses. So, I throw a towel over the top of the boiler. It keeps the dust out and lets it “breath”.

True, I am leery of insects etc getting in there. My barn is its own eco system LOL
Thanks, I will probably get one just to store it on long down times like winter.

Just go to the local watering hole and ask the bartender for a pull off keg cap when they tap a new keg. Or cover it tightly with an aluminum foil "cap".
Fear and ridicule are the tactics of weak-minded cowards and tyrants who have no other leadership talent from which to draw in order to persuade.

I put coffee filters on mine and secure them with a rubber band.
When I use them for low wines storage, I use a 2'' cap with a PTFE gasket that has had one side filed flat.
