My friend just got a pot still. I was going to be buying a Turbo Airstill by end of summer, but now I'm thinking of mooching off his equipment for a year or so while I set up a keggerator (oh, my fuck, I hate washing longneck bottles!)
I have an all grain brewing setup. And free fermentors, as I actually don't drink all that much. So I figured I'd do a rum wash, and see how it goes. I have a pack of distillers yeast brand Rum yeast. And I'm off to get molasses and sugar tomorrow.
Other than that, what odds and ends would I need?

Welcome from another Ontario member!

Welcome Pics of the setup might be helpful. An air still is not a great choice due to the small size it makes it very had to make cuts.

I have an Airstill and bitter is right ,impossible ti make cuts. I usually run turbo and draw 50ml foreshots off 4 liters and then collect 750ml and call it, When all 5 bottles are run its off to the carbon for watering to 45 abv and down the carbon snake. It's rough but with a sweet mix it's ok. Currently just finished a 30 lt boka, 1.5 in coloum 26" thats propane powered
but I got a 50 lt all stainless keg to make an electric setup.

You can make a nice rum from your buddy's pot still.
I've got a link in my signature line below for a rum I found here at HD a while back.
Simple, and comes out great.
Welcome.

Welcome from another Ontarian. Don't post as much as I used to due to time constraints, but always lurking and figured i'd say hello. Wasn't a rum fan until i started making my own. If you look in tried and true, Hookrum is my favorite. I use regular bread yeast for it, and it turns out very nice. Hope you enjoy this weekend, and Happy 150th!

Got a batch of Hook settling right now, going to start second generation as soon as the carboys are freed up. I used Crosby's fancy grade from Halifax since it was cheaper than black strap around here.
