Change of direction

Post by ausboy »

Hi all,

Home brewer of 20+ years making a change from beer to something "harder". Spent a few hours reading around this site, some solid contributions from some knowledgeable people.

Cheers.

Welcome to the forum.
Some of what you read here wont sit well with a beer brewer.
Hygiene is probably one of those things, the types and ways that yeasts are used is another.
Lots of things are done differently.

+1 Saltbush Bill.
Of brewing beer and distilling, this hobby is easier by far.
No sanitizing. Lots of recipes with cheap bakers yeast. No hops. Boil your beer 'til it spits out liquor.
Good luck on your new adventure and welcome to Home Distiller.

That said the brewing experience will hold you in good stead, a lot of the mashing and fermenting techniques are very similar.
