Got into this hobby about a year ago. Spent a lot of time making one really crappy still, then made a nice Boka. I have done 3 sugar washes, 4 runs of UJSSM. I really enjoy this so far. Can't wait to keep trying different things and start real mashing soon.
Happy trails.

Welcome, thehort, and congrats on your progression of learning.
I too, went from TPW to UJSSM to all grain mashes and it'll be a year for me in another month. The freedom and process of AG is very satisfying, and produces such a tasty drop that it might be difficult for you to go back to sugar washes.

I can't imagine going back to a sugar wash. It was a great way to learn, and I'm glad I did some, but it was learning, purely learning. The alcohol wasn't bad, but not great.

Hey there, thehort.
I've found in beer brewing those that do all-grain and those that do extracts.
Seems a good beer can be made from either.
Same with distilling. Don't feel you have to pick one over the other.
All-grains and sugars live harmoniously here. Just check the Tried & True Recipes on the main page.
Crow's Rum (like all true rums) uses no grains, but also includes turbinado sugar and is an excellent drink!
Whereas Honey Bear Bourbon is an all-grain, also of exceptional quality.
But we're here to help whichever way you need help. Just stick to a Tried & True Recipe for best results.
There's a lot of crap recipes on the internet, and some just plain make no sense.
