Hi from Ireland

Post by Old_Goat »

Hi folks,

First post here...

Have been researching distilling for almost a year now on and off as a hobby. I find the whole subject absolutely fascinating. I love a wee sup of whiskey on a Friday or Saturday night and have been slowly making my way through commercial Irish and Scotch whiskies for a number of years now.

The homedistiller site created by Tony Ackland and this forum are amazing reference points. Found the volume of information and spectrum of outputs overwhelming at the outset but slowly finding my feet and looking forward to getting started in the next few months.

My father and I have constructed an all copper pot still with integrated kettle element and controller box from scratch. He is a metal worker and electronic engineer by trade so his help and advice was essential. We're really proud of our creation and I've learned so much about the composition and construction of our equipment over that time. Next step is to do as much reading as possible and try my hand at a wash.

Exciting times ahead.

Looking forward to connecting and sharing my experiences.

All the very best...

welcome in fella.
Hope you did your research as to what solder to use.
I could not find leadfree solder in any builders merchant, only small rolls in B&Q or woodies so had to get it from UK, the solder the plumbers use in Eire is not Lead free.

Lets see your creation, sounds like a nice still

Hi Swedish Pride,

Yep - had to order lead free online so all sorted in that respect. Soldering is fun :D

I'll post a pic later...

Welcome sir!
All the information CAN be overwhelming!
Once you've taken care of the basics, look through Tried and True Recipes and pick one you like.
Follow the path and save a BUNCH of headaches!
Cheers
