Hello from Washington state USA

Post by Mash n Reflux »

Over the last couple years I have had friends that made their own shine and I decided to give it a try.
I am in no hurry so I have been doing my research and finally landed here, hope this site will set me straight from all the youtube videos I have been watching....

I started buying my set up after checking out what seemed to work best for me and here is my list:

Still Spirits T-500 Boiler and Condenser Complete System (reflux system)
Alcohol Hydrometer Distilling Test Kit: Pro Series Traceable 0-200 Proof and Tralle Alcoholmeter Tester Set with Glass Jar
Speidel Plastic Fermenter - 30L (7.9 gal)
Jaybird Thermowell, Airlock Grommet Combo for Speidel Fermenters (can use a temperature sensor and an airlock at same time)
VIVOSUN 48"x20.75" Seedling Heat Mat and Digital Thermostat Combo Set (keep the mash at a good temperature)
LD Carlson 3 Piece Airlock (Pack of 5)
Brewing Spoon, Stainless Steel, 21-Inch Spoon
Distillers Yeast (DADY) (1 lb. bulk pack) (Pack of 2)
Still Spirits Turbo Clear (Pack of 5)
Amylase enzyme - 1 lb.
FERMAX Yeast Nutrient 1 lb

Now to see if I can use it all properly.
Thanks and again Hello!

Welcome from another member from the Evergreen State. This is suppose to be a welcome thread but a few of the items you have listed I would avoid. On the other hand I am surprised you found Jaybird as he is out of NorCal. I stopped in at his store and was very impressed with his products. Look at the different stills both bought and built on this site. I see no need for turbo clear.

Looks like you mean business, Mash n Reflux. It's good to see commitment.
With any well-stocked toolbox, you'll have the common tools and some you rarely use at all.
As Bushman said, you may find your Turbo Clear is not needed. At least that's my experience as I've got some unused packets
lying around in my toolbox.

I always wonder when I see vendors list "amylase" as there is ALPHA and GLUCO amylase, each with different jobs
and pitch temperatures. They owe it to the customer to be a little more precise in the description!

Anyway, Welcome to you and I wish you well in your journey.

Welcome from another member in the PNW.

Looking over your post I only really have one comment, hope you take it well.
If it says "TURBO" anywhere DUMPO it.
Remember the old lyric, "if you can't do the time, don't do the crime".
Regular (not turbo) things work correctly and don't leave you with nasty stuff that makes you wonder WTH you did wrong.
Again, Welcome!
