Howdy from GA

Post by kegsNcoils »

Howdy from GA (30 miles north of Atlanta),
I'm a guess I fall in the hobbyist/novice category. Although I've been around stills a good portion of my life (thanks granddad). I'm currently finishing up a 1/2 barrel keg w/ 16" column & 1/4 keg thump. My product exits are 1/2". I have a 44" liebig condenser that is 1/2" in 1" (i soldered wraps of 16ga wire around the 1/2).
I just completed pressure testing and a vinegar run after what seemed like FOREVER. Congratulations to the mods here on a fantastic forum. I've been quietly reading here for weeks and there is a plethora of knowledge on these pages.

My main interests are whiskey, clean neutrals for flavoring (yep, I've got a wife), and I would like to learn more about multi grain products.
Thanks for the add

For a beginner try Uncle Jesse's Simple Sour Mash. Learn to pot still first then reflux. Learn good cuts. Dont be stingy with every drop and throw out what should be and use faints for the best whiskey. Keep a journal noting time into run, jar number, temperature, and proof. Note that hearts will run fairly solid until they dont and then your into tails. One jar in front and one behind hearts generally makes a good blend.
Above all never get complacent thinking you know it all. Stay safe and enjoy.
