Hi from Christchurch, NZ

Post by Anvil » Tue Jan 05, 2021 6:34 pm

Hi Everyone,

After many months of reading this forum, digesting and experimenting, it is time to say 'hello'!

After trying smaller gas fired boilers, I'm now running a 50l keg boiler with 2x 2kw electric elements, a simple pot-still head with a liebig condenser for stripping runs and a 65mm diameter bokakob reflux head for making neutral. Then making gin in a 5l copper alembic still.

A special thanks to the makers that have posted construction, plans and soldering advice, and to those gin-makers that have forged the path for others to follow (special thanks to Odin and NZChris to name a couple - there are many more).

After making a few passable gins and many not-so-good, my New Years' resolutions are to:
1. stop drinking the good ones before they are the mandatory five weeks in the bottle.
2. be more analysis driven, rather than experimental - I don't know enough about what I'm doing wrong, so need to reduce the variables!

Thanks again to all the experienced distillers that are sharing their knowledge.

Cheers, M

Welcome to the forums.

Sounds like you've got yourself setup for just about all you could ever want. Took me a while before I had more than my main pot still and still haven't sorted out a reflux solution.
