New to distilling
Hi my name is Anne and I live in New Zealand where home distilling is legal. I have decided to take up distilling as a hobby and am about to make my first batch of gin. The catalyst for taking up this hobby is the difficulty importing absinthe from Europe - the shipping costs are prohibitive. I hope to practice making gin then try my hand at making great absinthe. I have done a couple of courses - The Art of Distilling and Gin Immersion both being very helpful. However, of course I've got many questions but will do the required reading as directed! Hopefully I can get the answers I need before my wash is ready. I look forward to conversing with like minded people and am very grateful to have access to this group.

Welcome Anne, what are you using as a base spirit for your Gin?, are you macerating the botanicals or using vapour infusion?

That would be “Masticate”.
I think that's how they make kava.
It's to do with the enzymes found in saliva.

And it would add enzymes. But that is a lot of chewing for the 30 gallon batch.jonnys_spirit wrote: ↑Fri Jul 16, 2021 7:16 pm
