New boy

Post by Custardly »

Good day to you all on the home distiller forum, thankyou for letting me join.

I am completely new to the hobby but have spent was reasonable amount of time finding good distillers to watch on YouTube such as Still It and Hops & barley. I know this can be dangerous but am trying to work out how to start off and what still to begin with. Also trying to get reference books to help me.

I usually store buy but find I have too much time on my hands in the winter so need something to do and this seems good.
I have made wine and port before with some success.
Some of my friends are brewers and are good at making ale so I wanted to go a different way.
I am interested in making Rum or Whiskey or even a bit of moonshine possibly.

The hobby has also sparked my interest as I enjoy making things and the copperwork fits the bill.
I am currently looking at a keg pot still as a way in, using a heater electric with PID control.

So I will lurk for a while and follow a few threads if that's okay.

Welcome aboard. Lurk around and do some reading. YouTube has a way of leading people down a wayward path. Before you spend any money definitely read a bunch here. Forget the PID. Good luck!
Freedom had been hunted round the globe; reason was considered as rebellion; and the slavery of fear had made men afraid to think. But such is the irresistible nature of truth, that all it asks, and all it wants, is the liberty of appearing.

Welcome aboard, Custardly
The problem with YouTube is that newbs like your self don't know if they are being fed false information or not.
The B & H fella you have been watching is on our forum list of people who give out very unreliable information.
If you read our rules app.php/rules you will find him under rule L concerning YouTube channels.
