Getting Started
I'm in Nebraska. Just got my 2.5 copper still from Whiskey Still. I'm looking forward to making some shine but I mainly want to make bourbon. About to do my first batch in a day or so.

Howdy Tripple D!
Don't dismiss a shine from sugar wash. Lot's to be learned from that. Particularly if you do multiple similar runs like Uncle Jesse's Simple Sour Mash (UJSSM). Bourbon isn't much different, except for everything. And nothing. Take your time, study, and soon you'll be making wonderful corn based bourbon.
Best, Drifter

Welcome
Yes don't dismiss a sugar shine. Quick search will tell you corn can be a bitch. I've had good luck with a step down corn mash from corn flour but separation may be worse. However my 1 yr old Wild Turkey clone is quite nice. My Odins Rye Bread has it's fans and my sweetfeed wasn't bad either. Although I haven't done the UJSSM because I don't care for sour mash, all those people can't be wrong. So KISS until your comfortable. Also I find that the all grain products need FAR FAR longer to age.
