Hello,
We are a ChemE university brew club located at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. Going into the 2022 academic year (Autumn) we are looking to expand our club to the world of distillation. We hope to begin by constructing a fractional column still; however, we are not very experienced in the world of constructing food-grade distillation setups. Additionally, we are looking to learn more about the specific legality of ethanol distillation and/or other uses for our prospective still. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Is it “Revenge of the Nerds” or “Animal House”?
Freedom had been hunted round the globe; reason was considered as rebellion; and the slavery of fear had made men afraid to think. But such is the irresistible nature of truth, that all it asks, and all it wants, is the liberty of appearing.

Re: College Chemical Engineering Brew Club
You may be able to get a research exemption to run your still, otherwise you will have to get a full on distillers license. It's illegal to even own a still in many states. Talk to whoever your clubs faculty sponsor is. I don't think a universities yippity yap's would be real keen on a club based around illegal activities.
Could just pull it outside of the University environment.

There's some serious work being done at Oregon State.
You may want to poke around there for assistance.
