Hello

Post by Bikerblitz »

A good day to all you shiners!

My name is Hugo, a winemaking biker from the Western Cape, South Africa.

During the Covid lockdown, we in sunny South Africa were not allowed to buy any booze or tobacco related products.
So as to still enjoy my drinks in the evening, a group of friends gave me the idea, seeing I am a winemaker by trade.
From then on, I used my skills to make shine- (we call it mampoer), brandies and playing around with a few other drinks.
Traditional potstill made from a 10L urn was our startup still. I am working on my upgrade now, 50L urn to do modular runs.

Would like to hear from all of you distillers of more ideas and tips as this passion is still growing and you all will have the answers!

Keep stilling good stuff!

Hugo

Welcome Hugo, fellow saffer and share your name as surname. Distilled wine is technically brandy and regional it is witblits, mampoer is from fruit.

Anyways, always nice to welcome fellow saffers here.

Hello Setsumi
My name is Hugo Lambrechts, studied winemaking at Elsenburg Agricultural College many moons ago, we distilled brandy there as students, was fun and I loved it then and now.
We did distill mampoer during lockdown, mango, apples, guava, oranges and just sugar washes for making our liqueurs. We had fun!
Made witblits from Chenin blanc, Colombard, a few red blends, but the best was my brandy made from Muscat Alexandrie (Hanepoot).
I do know the terms, luckily. Only mentioned the mampoer, not the witblits or brandies, my fault.

From where are you and EricTheRed in SA? I am from Lutzville, West Coast. Snoek wêreld!
