subject: Recipes for whiskey and step by step distilling?
Hi, I just found this forum and webpage in a search engine and this is probally the best webpage I have found on distilling. I was wondering if someone can give me a basic recipe to make whiskey so I can see what is all invalved in it? I have no clue how to distill but would love to start learning and maybe try and make my own still. Is there any webpages that tell you step by step how to make a still or step by step on how they work and all? Like an idiots guide to distilling? haha Thanks
Chris

Tony Ackland's site is http://homedistiller.org/
This site is truly terrific, really by far the best site I know. It contains all the information one needs to start distilling and much more. Also: this site is offered as a download, so one can use it offline.
The site you mentioned: http://www.homedistillation.com/ is of somebody else and is not to compare with Tony Ackland's site. I found some good info about activated carbon on this site.
A very good book about making whiskey and also with plans of a distiller is available on the following site: http://www.magma.ca/~smiley/index.htm

The book can be bought on the website through a secure server. The electronic downloadable file is the cheapest and after you pay with a credit card a password is sent to open the file.
The book is very good. It explains how to make a still but mainly how to produce a high quality whiskey, which is not that simple.
You are asking for a step by step guide. It's much, much more important for you to first try to understand the whole process.
This might take several weeks or months, and you'll find out that the http://homedistiller.org is a fantastic source.
