Putting the final touches on a taboret for storing my stillin' paraphernalia. It's just an old 18" X 24" 4 drawer kitchen cabinet section. I did a few alterations with the circular saw, installed casters on the bottom so I can move it around and a piece of 3/4" plywood for a top. Only thing left to do is some sanding and a couple of coats of Polycryl.

taboret - [tab-er-it, tab-uh-ret, -rey] - a small, usually portable stand, cabinet, or chest of drawers, as for holding work supplies.

10 gallons of cracked wheat sour mash using slop from my previous run of corn/barley/rye.

My steam rig has really helped streamline my mashing. Getting close to having enough low wines to do some spirit runs.

Let's see, firewater...firewater...nope that's not it! :D I will try to follow up with any details. First detail is, I scorched the pot somewhat. Damn. But I think it's OK. It still looks like a creamy grape-juice. Pretty amazing color. I have been doing mostly all-corn, so just following a basic Booner's process. I have been doing 10-12lbs corn in a bucket with 4G water. But my yields have been lower than I wanted. I thought I'd at least get the grain up to 210F for a bit and see if that helped. It did a bit, I got 1.055 starting gravity on 20lbs corn 8G of water, only at boil temps for 15 minutes or so. I am sure others can do better but this is OK by me. Gonna ferment on grain, which I have also been having good success with and may give me a couple extra points yield. Yeast has been pitched.

Just started 20L wash of pseudocydonia sinensis (Chinese quince) wine for brandy making (10-15 kg quince, 4.5 kg sugar, water to 20 L after cooking the cored quince pieces) - last lot came out tasting like Turkish delight (Several years ago) and then I ruined it by adding raw quince and oak.
Won't make the same mistake twice! This time once it's worked out and distilled I'll smooth it with a little of mum's quince jelly and call that it!
Where has all the rum gone? . . .

Water purifier.
Water purifier.
I made 3 litres of 45% sac run with my new thumper setup. Using gas to heat. Very different to my other electric setup. I failed at a coiled Liebig but I'll persist with it.
My cousin scored a keg for AUS$30 from a scrap yard that already had some sort of clamping system. A bit of filing got a piece of 38mm in there.
So we've been making fire lighter and steam today.

Well yesterday was ground hog day... Another batch of blue corn, in a week or so that'll give me 12 G to run. Today I finally put a fill hole in the top of my keg with a weld spud and a cap. Just finished the vinegar run on that and my ferrule repair job. Gonna take a break and see Mad Max with my wife and son now.

Made some maple whiskey last night. 1 gallon of maple syrup with 4 gallons water & pitched bakers, left it for 2 weeks to finish & ran in potstill mode. Did some preliminary cuts & looks like I'll get about 1.5 liters of good stuff, want to taste test again before blending though, heads to hearts was an easy transition but I'm having trouble deciding where to cut the tails...

I did a Feints run today from about 3 spirit runs..
I was really disappointed because I figured that my little 5 gal pot still had smeared a bunch of those spirit runs and I would gather 3-4 quarts of good stuff.
Now granted I am currently waiting on this run to air out for 34-36 hours but from what I tasted off of the still I would feel lucky if I got 1-1/2 quarts from the 3-1/2 hours of propane and time that I burned...
Let us hope that the cutting table tomorrow is more generous than the tasting spoon was this morning...

Well RR, I guess the good news is that your lil5gal isn't smearing as bad as you thought!

I've had a run or two like that. Usually ends up with wide cuts and a few jars of panty dropper... but that's just how I do it.
But what the heck do I know.....I am still learning.

I would say, 1.5 quarts from an all feints run in a 5 gallon pot still is pretty good. If the cost of propane is an issue for extracting that much good likker, you need to start thinkin' electric. Just sayin'.
