Theoretical maximum SG

Post by Texas Jim »

Given an all grain mash bill and a known quantity of water, how do you calculate the maximum SG that a wash can have?

And, suspended solids artificially increase an indicated SG, correct?

Thanks.

use a Brewers calculator. They will give you what a wort should make. Use about 75% conversion as a starting point or two lbs per gallon to make about 1.055.

Here is a comprehensive calculator for what you're after, Tex.
Filter some mash liquid through a strainer funnel into a test cylinder for better gravity reading accuracy. Those particles can set things off otherwise.

Thanks - I was pretty sure that my SG of 1.11 was slightly off!
