- 10lbs cracked corn (I then ground that in a Vita-Mix)
- 5lbs Malted Munich Barley
- ~3 lbs of spent grains from a local brewery, also ground in the Vita-Mix.
From the little I've read, Munich Malt has an average diastatic power of only 52
Since 30 is considered the lower limit for the entire mash bill
That might have contributed to the poor mash efficiency

As expected, MASH WAS A BUST! (first failed mash hurts a little)

Ran it through the still anyway. Complete exercise in futility. After tossing "fore-shots", was reading 30% abv in the parrot. Tossed it all.

Lessons learned:

1. Be educated on reading SG... ugh
2. Forget what I thought I knew about all grains and get re-educated
3. Don't give up on AG, try try again!

Thanks for the feedback!

Cheers.

Definitely don't give up.

You could have kept the distillate for cleaning purposes, or thrown it in whatever you run next.

IF the initial gravity is actually 1.020 and corrected for temperature, it means that there was poor hydrolysis of the starch. Cracked corn is difficult to mash. It is probably better for a novice to use flaked corn at first.
