I understand that it is preferable to start from a pure spirit base and then add your botanical to your second distill run but I wondered if anyone had success in adding the botanicals ( minus the orange peels) directy into the mash and do a first run with the botanicals in the pot. Clearly it’s not the preferred route but I wonder if it yeilds an “ok” product when time is tight:)
Thanks for chipping in!

Well, if it was a “tried & true” method….it would be included in the Tried and True recipe forum.
But you asked the question, and the number of and type of responses would indicate how to or how not to make a (good) gin.
Bottomline —> go to the Gin forum and read a while. You’ll learn a lot!

p.s. - “Mash” is a grain product. “Wash” is a sugar product. Using the wrong nomenclature confuses the respondents.

Re: Gin from mash?
Thank you, I’ll peruse the gin forum. PS I like to use mostly grains for my vodka / gin runs.

JM, you have started two almost identical posts. The other one has more posts so I am locking this one to keep the comments together.
