Dropped some coal in the mash
I am about to distill spirits by first fermenting a mash of sugar and water and then using a thermostat heater 30-45°C (86-113°F) to distill spirits.
I made a noob mistake and happened to drop some of the coal from the water lock into the mash in the bucket (this happened when I wanted to move the whole thing after mixing sugar, water and yeast).
Is there a problem in any way with some active coal in the mash while fermenting? It is not very much at all. Very little actually.

Re: Dropped some coal in the mash
It’s not a “mash”, it’s a sugar wash. A mash is made by processing grains by “mashing”. It involves temperature steps and holds to promote saccharification of the starches into sugars.
But, to answer your question … no, the activated carbon won’t affect the ferment at all. It is pH neutral so it won’t even help with the acidification that occurs naturally as a sugar wash ferments. It won’t change any of the flavors either. It will simply end up sinking to the bottom when the yeast flocculates.

You might like to look through our Tried and True recipe section before you start your next wash.
Plain water , sugar and yeast is far from the ideal recipe for a sugar wash.
If you mean by this that you will then ferment it, then you might find 45C is to hot.......less than 40c would be better , some yeasts wont even like it that hot.
If you really do mean distill it then that's another whole ball game.

No problem with charcoal ... I don't understand the temperature of 30-45 ° C ... you mean fermentation?

Freedom had been hunted round the globe; reason was considered as rebellion; and the slavery of fear had made men afraid to think. But such is the irresistible nature of truth, that all it asks, and all it wants, is the liberty of appearing.
