My first everything, learning developing and production

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.
Pics are VERY welcome, we drool over pretty copper 8)

Instead of soldering I used heat-resistant super-metal adhesive

Unless you can prove your adhesive is safe for high temp solvents, it not gonna be safe.
welcome aboard some of us are ornery old coots but if you do a lot of
reading and don't ask stupid questions you'll be alright most are

Even if you can prove its solvent safe I personally would never use a adhesive. At some point you will have to solder or is everything going to be glued? Heat cycles, washing and hell just moving it around will take its toll on your glue. Did you happen to pickle those brass (lid fitting) connectors? Lol.dont mean to bash ya..but reading should have uncovered what most people think of liquid metals..adhesives..and your future health.

Thanks for your comments.
I dont plan to use this chemicals any other parts of the still. Just I used here, outside of the tube.
You have a point there, Maybe I can use liquid silicon inside over the small connection part.

No to silicone too. Just solder it.

Use lead free solder and water soluable flux.

What's the gasket made of under the adapter nut? I hope it's teflon...if not, you need to replace that too.

Luckily, all you wasted was the cost of your brass threaded adapter and a couple of inches off your column. Cut that adapter off and buy a new one. You don't "HAVE" to solder it on though, if the fit is tight enough to be sturdy. You can seal that up with flour paste no problem - cheap, strong, vapor proof, removable. Solvent-based metal adhesive is going to be a BIG problem when you start throwing hot, vaporized, purified solvent at it.

+1

Or a couple or so wraps of ptfe tape will probably also seal it fine.

Ok, I will try but.
Yesterday night I tried to remove the adapter with torch, but it did not.
I must buy again adapter which is far away from me , maybe in the weekend.
And my tube will be short :( , After cutting it will be about 100 cm.

100 cm will be plenty for your "tube"=column. Maybe overkill. From there you need to go to a simple Lyne arm. My understanding is that most people that use a kettle like yours use a bucket as a condenser. Not sure why they dont use a inline cooling system..its only a few fittings..small length of copper pipe and some tubing for line connections. No buckets to leak and such.

the 5cm shorter may mean something to your girl, but the spirit will be fine without it.

Cyanoacrylates and isocyanates are really bad for your central nervous system. you will be better off without them.

Now the coil condenser.
I tried several times and several styles. No salt, no ice, no heating.
But at last this one was good for me.
20150221_170446.jpg
20150221_170459.jpg
this (using second pipe over it) did not worked (because kink happened at the bottom), i used newspaper instead of pipe second time(I have no pics) . It was ok then.
20150221_171956.jpg
After than I burned the newspaper with torch , clean it manualy with knife, brute force, pressured water, than (vinegar+water)

Many people do it out of habit; other's do it because they have sandpaper in their hands; others do it because they know the should; some people do not do it at all.

I always run my sandpaper / crocus cloth around the end (edge) opening of the copper tubing / pipe. Solder will adhere to that lip as it does to the side of the copper pipe / tubing - and it helps seal the pipe / tubing. A small detail that could save a lot of hassle.

I was looking for needle valve (1/4 female gear) very long time.
Today I found. Not to much expensive (30 usd), local made (Turkey), using ptfe gasket, less perssure 300 but enough for 2mm pipe, yellow metal :) , I will see while running is it good or not for fine tuning.

Correct, you need a vent hole in that condenser cap. And do not solder the cap on.

Yes, you need a vent hole in the top cap. When you start up the still the column is full of air. The vapor produced in the boiler will force the air out the vent hole. It also ensures that the still cannot be pressurized, for safety.

Soldering the cap is optional. I don't.
Distilling at 110f and 75 torr.

Thank you, got it i will open small hole at the top because of safety and i will not solder ,maybe better for cleaning later.
But if not solder the top maybe is enough by itself, because if there is a pressure top will dance and I can see and I will lower the heat or increase the flow rate :?:
