I've done a few washes with good success thanks to Home Distiller Forum here. All great. No more turbo yeasts for me.
Had just finished Birdwatchers, refluxed and multi-pot-stilled to a nice neutral and Odins gin ingredients are macerating with it now for a 2 week wait.
What next while waiting?
How about an all-grain? ShineonCrazy Diamond's recipe just made it to Tried & True... scary recipe steps... but he's a Pink Floyd fan so let's do it.
How's that for qualification?
Thank goodness for a terrific nearby grain store for all the ingredients.
Laid out the Honey Bear recipe steps in my famous post-it notes. Made it with the optional oats and brother this tastes fantastic as is.
(Hey new guys like me: Read how to make cuts!)
Don't have a Gibbs barrel, but a #3 charred oak, 5 liter generic barrel from Amazon just arrived and I cleaned it with boiling water.
One tiny seep I sealed with pure soy candle wax and now no leaks with cold water.
I know the barrel will make this Honey Bear Bourbon even better with time (and filling it will take a few runs). But this Honey Bear right now is better than ANYTHING I've ever bought in a store.
ShineonCrazy Diamond, I bow to you. I will drink this with "Echoes" playing.
How come the rest of the world doesn't know about this?

I too will have to say that is the best bourbon I've ever had
Good job being a noob, following the simple directions and making an AG so soon.
I love the HBB aged on oak but there is something special about it white as well.
Good job, Shine0n

Thanks for the sentiments, ShineOn.
For me, it was a big bite to take on. I said "scary" up above and I meant it.
But all my questions were answered throughout ShineonCrazyDiamond's recipe thread. I took notes and test ran it in my head over & over while driving to and from work.
A real confidence builder now that she's done, and I'm pleased as can be with it!

Lots of positive responses and so many great recipes in the Tried & True recipe section. With all the positives this recipe is getting I will have to put it on my list to try.

Take the word of the others, Mr. Bushman. I'm still too new to have a qualified opinion because EVERYTHING has been tasting good to me out of new guy excitement.Bushman wrote:Lots of positive responses and so many great recipes in the Tried & True recipe section. Now have the 2nd ferment of Honey Bear bubbling away. Gotta fill this new barrel. I also bought and added some enzymes as I saw in the Honey Bear thread they were "insurance."
Quite a magic trick when that porridge turns to soup, and suddenly it's not so scary anymore.
From reading other all-grain recipes, I'm beginning to see how this grain thing works. Subtle differences, but with many similarities throughout.
Lookit me, ma, I'm stillin'!
P.S: NZChris has been pushing his "distill twice" methodology lately. I've been doing that as well and it really brings out the beauty of this recipe.

So true. My first HBB was run in my flute - one and done- all the others were double stilled with my pot head, defiantly the way to run HBBfizzix wrote: P.S: NZChris has been pushing his "distill twice" methodology lately.
