First still build 3”ccvm

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.
Pics are VERY welcome, we drool over pretty copper 8)

First still build 3”ccvm

With the resources from this incredible site I constructed my second still ( first was a air still) its a 50 litre keg on 11” legs,1/2” drain in bottom, two electric heating elements a 1500 watt used mainly for heat up and stripping and a 4500 watt controlled by a 240 volt scr controller with amp meter. I ditched the 2” flange and put in a 7” tri clamp cap (to access for cleaning). Machined out center for a three inch triclamp column 40” high.1/2” Csst cold finger for reflux (I mostly do pot distillation) into two 3” tees leading into a 2” shotgun condenser that is at perfect height for my (built myself) parrot on a shelf ontop of the keg. I have two digital temperature controllers on both the vapour path and the condenser flow. She runs like a dream in both reflux and pot modes. Thanks for the help members cheers

Looks good, I like how you have your collection at counter level and don’t have to bend over. Also nice looking parrot.

Great job on your build. Love the copper column!

Bottom shelf-stored beer always goes down nice.

Looks Great!

Curious if your stand is welded/screwed to the keg or detachable?

You’re going to need a cap on the end of the tee that you are using for an elbow. If you can get your hands on a 3” elbow, you can then put a sightglass on that second tee and put it below the offtake tee

Hi kimbo
The pic that’s in original post was for reflux mode. I do cap ends of both tee’s. Second tee is used like an elbow like yours but offers a both easy clean port and a optimum spot for thermo well

Nice job! I’m curious about how your element is wired? Is that a kit? Or a specific plug. I just have loose wires on mine.

I found a couple plug end that were same diameter as the element outer end and made em fit. Barley and hops did a video on this using plumbing parts to make a water tight, shock proof, safe way to attach the elements.

Yes totally. Cuts are easier and better quality because of the larger amount in boiler (40 litres vs 4 litres) and only reducing from 3” column to 2” shotgun condenser makes for outstanding speed in both pot and reflux

Uh....yeh, I did.

I always wondered why “brewers keep their beers on the bottom shelf” ... now I know!
