So this is the first real still I built, though not totally myself. An uncle who used to work as a plumber sourced the keg for me and helped with the copper since apparently my DIY skills are a lot worse than I believed... Anyway pretty pleased with the size, have 2 23L fermenters to fit nicely into it. Hoping to make some good Irish whiskey since we don't get much of that on here, and any suggestions for names for the new girl are welcome!
Thx lads

Well my first, back when I didn’t know what I was doing and just starting to learn, was named Jean Ann. My next, the one that taught me so much, was Charlene. Otis

I’d call it Steam’n Genie .... cause thats whats gonna happen then that top PVC hose gets hot and kinks the water flow .
Maybe get your farter in law to Remake the liebig so the hoses come straight down rather than up . If you ask around here you’ll hear from quite a few that can atest to this
Other than that , happy still’n

Just out curiosity
How do you have the tap rigged up.
Hopefully the valve can't be closed

how have you connected the coupler? i'm not sure a keg coupler makes a great stillhead to be honest. not that i haven't wondered if there was an easy way myself, but there are a couple of big issues with using it without a fair bit of modification

I didn’t realise you used a keg coupler . Apart from the high risk of the valve closing , there is also a fair amount of rubber in them .

Yup, I'd call call it Goodyear. That's what the drop might taste like if rubber not removed. I think the valve closing is a nonissue. He's plumbed his condenser to the "gas in" side of the coupler, not the beer out side. The valve opens the top (beer out) port which looks to have a brass plug in placed. Was that plug pickled first?

Not on my keg.
With the tap locked in and the lever up the keg is sealed for both gas and liquid. Only when pressed all the way down and latched does the tsp open the ports.
Also, on mine the lever is actually spring loaded to go up and close off the keg if bumped.
That tap, as I see it, is a serious danger.
Here are a couple pics, tap up is closed, tap down opens both gas and liquid:

MCH , what is the orifice size on that outlet OP has used ?
Would it be smaller than 3/8” internal ?
I’m thinking potential blockage point .

To many things wrong or could go wrong.....I say start again.....there are plenty of examples of easy to build pot stills on the forum to copy.
Re: My first still built from a Guinness keg... naming suggestions welcome!
There's no more valve in the coupler, drilled it through. Water or air can be pushed through without any effort, so I'm satisfied there won't be pressure build up. Have run it twice now and have had very good clear flow, both with steam cleaning it and actual likker. Haven't drank anything out of it yet, so I'll double check to make sure I didn't leave any rubber in it, though pretty sure I got it all off... Appreciate all the advice anyway lads, will probably make some modifications- I want the Lyne arm at a better angle anyway.
