Beware of Chalk.

Post by pommie »

I see a few posters are adding chalk to their mashes to act as a PH upper. Whilst (school) chalk in the past was Calcium Carbonate, most (all) chalk now is Calcium Sulphate and actually lowers PH. Shells (Esp. Oyster) are your friend and if you live near Dover (white cliffs fame) they're also your friend.

Pommie.
P.S adding about 100g K2CO3 to my 30L wash as a PH buffer. Seeming to work so far.
