Beer kit mods

Post by Firegod74 »

I stopped at the local brew supply shop and was looking at the beer kits. There is every thing from pale ale to all wheat. The kits are all liquid and all that is needed is the yeast addition to get the party started. Has anyone used one of these to start a grain batch and add sugar to get the proper stating gravity? Seems to me to be an easy way to experiment with different flavours and grains.
Thanks in advance for your input.

I used liquid malt extracts a few times as an entry into rye. LME, DME, and the "kits" you mention all work fine but are considerably more expensive than true all-grain.

Once in a while I’ve found a kit on deep discount and used it. It works very well, and you shouldn’t have the add sugar. I’d not spend the money on regular price stuff, tho.
