Burrs/Seeds in my Cracked Corn?

Post by CypSteel »

I found several of these in my cracked corn bag that I am using to make UJSSM. It looks like a seed/burr of some sort? I picked any that I saw out, but what are they? Will they affect my ferment/product?

I cant think of the name but that is the spiky seed that sticks to your clothes & dog. I wouldnt use it. Maybe try and filter it out of set up a fan blowing over a bucket & slowly pour the corn into it so they blow out.

Then find a new source of corn.

Burdock seed is what I believe you're thinking of.

This is a pest in South Africa and I am also finding it in the bag of maize I bought.
Cocklebur (Xanthium strumarium) and it is regarded as poisonous.
In the light of this I don't think it is recommended to allow this on your ferment. I check the grain and remove.
