Toasting corn meal?

All about grains. Malting, smoking, grinding and other preparations.
Which grains are hot, which are not.

Toasting corn meal?

Post by rubberduck71 »

So nothing showed up on HD search bar & I find some limited returns on the Google search about "toasting corn meal." Has anyone tried this???

I know SCD's CROW bourbon calls for toasting oats, and I've seen recipes for toasting whole grain or cracked corn, but never the meal.

Just curious...

Corn bread recipes say toasting the meal gives it a more "hearty" flavor.

Thanks,

This is an interesting thread as I've been considering adding toasted barley. I've been drinking toasted barley tea and think it could be a great addition to a drink if the flavor transfers well.

Evidently, it transfers really well.

Be the first, and give it a try rubberduck. Toast up a few pounds of cracked corn, then run it through the mill to meal, and get your mash on!
Boy I bet that would make the kitchen smell good.

Dang. I searched "toasted corn" and "toast corn". Did not hit this thread.
Let us know how it turns out. We can't be the only ones to ever think of this.
