what to do with scorched whiskey?

Putting older posts here. Going to try to keep the novice forum pruned about 90 days work. The 'good' old stuff is going to be put into appropriate forums.

what to do with scorched whiskey?

Post by spiritsofcatemaco »

I got a 30 liter batch that is contaminates with scortched batch form the first run (80% corn, 20 malt wash).. I thought the scorchy taste would clean out with the second run but it dint.. it does NOT taste nice, not even to serve the the brothers in law... the only thing I can imagine right now is to through some Bi carb in and redistil for vodka... but before doing that I wanted to ask for any advice.... active carbon is no option so...

Just curious how you managed to scorch it as when I've build my new still I'll be doing some trial runs where I include the spent grain in the still with the wash (usjm)

I'll poor it first into my trucks gas tank! jajaja

well it was mashed corn flower, and fermented on the corn. The clear overstanding was about only 1/3 of total the volume and the lower 2/3 were quite thick , so I made a striping run on the mash with the spent corn... for UJSM you should not run on the corn anyway you'll need it for the next batch...

If you can pull 95+ it'll be just fine through your reflux still.

Don't put it in your gas tank unless you can get 98% or so, and then your car would have to have a few other changes to run it.

I'd agree with the pour it on the ground comment with a slight addition. Pour it somewhere, where it's not going to kill good grass.
