I've accumulated quite a bit of tails (and some heads) from all the UJSM type runs I've made. Ian Smiley says in his book that an all-feints run can produce a flavorful whiskey. Has anyone tried this?
I usually add a little of the feints to each run, but not enough to use up what I've saved. I know I can turn it into neutral spirits, but wondered if making the cuts would leave some flavor.

My heads go straight into my "fuel jar".
I save tails 'till I have a full still charge, and then run it twice, or thrice untill it's strong enough to go into the fuel jar.
My fuel jar runs my alcohol stoves, gas trimmer, and I use it in the winter months to get my two wood-burners started.
I would never ever dream of drinkin' any of that crap... if yer a smoker and can't smell or taste it it might be potable.

Some of my best whiskeys are from all tails runs.
That being said, they come from washes made mostly from grains, and only the occasional addition of refined sugars.
If I do all tails, I try to do it from all of one kind of wash (ie; all bourbon or all barley, dont mix the rum tails and the whiskey tails).
Keep tasting the output, as the flavors can get really intense, so the cuts are real important.
Sometimes, I blend some of the all tails whiskey into the whiskey from the parent run and then age it on wood.
Sometimes I just drink it as is. It is not a "binge drinkin whiskey", but a sipper, or flask liquor.
This is of course a matter of taste, and I do it all with a potstill.
Cheers.
P.S. I am talkin about all tails, not heads, and tails has a relatively low abv of ethanol, so the output is less than one wouls expect from a 2nd or 3rd run through the still.
