Putting older posts here. Going to try to keep the novice forum pruned about 90 days work. The 'good' old stuff is going to be put into appropriate forums.

1400W for 25L still ?

Post by dragongreen »

Hello

do you think an internal 1400W heating element for a 25L pot or reflux is OK ?

I'm not really in a rush, I prefer purity over speed of distillation (i think that's the trade off right ?)

Depends on what you local power supply is (eg: 240 volt, 120 volt) if you have a 240 volt supply it will run a bit hot, 1000w would be ideal.

I'm in the laundry room for winter (wife will have no propane in the house) so I'm using a 1500w and it gets the job done on a 30L but takes time. The dimmer switch (router control) I got from harbor freight melted and quit on warm up last nite, only used it about 12 times. Cheap for 15 bucks, but hope to find a better plug and play unit that requires no wiring.
