Putting older posts here. Going to try to keep the novice forum pruned about 90 days work. The 'good' old stuff is going to be put into appropriate forums.

Bad jeez! I won't wait for those HUGE pics to load, got to see a microscope view of some part though. Delete them soon because they are slowing down the whole forum!

Tell your computer to resize pictures no bigger than 600 pixels wide and however many pixels high, and then we can see them.

You kind of went from one extreme to the other on picture size. How about a nice 720x480? or a little smaller like 600x400?

It looks like what was used for (primarily) purifying acids and making anhydrous ethanol or methanol.

You could make likker with it though :)

Nice find, I'm jealous. Very collectable item.

That would be a lot of fun to watch. How much will it hold?

Not sure yet, I think a couple of gallons. I still have to get a couple of tubes for the coolant. We are going to try to get it going in the next couple of weeks. Any pointers?

Not really, it works just like any other still. If it was used for purifying acids there may be some unsual metallic salts hanging around it. I'd clean those pipes with a solution of strong acetic acid (nitric acid if I had it) followed by more runs of water, strong soda water, water, water. Then fire up the water for distillation and try it out. If it all works, you'll get very precise heating control with it.
