Have a huge orchard nearby selling blemished apples cheap. My question is what's the avg yield of juice per pound/bushel when pressed? I don't wanna buy more than I need etc...

Would fruit with cloth or jute above and below, with pallets/ boards above and below and pressed with the bucket of a front-end-loader, work?

You got a orchard then there a press nearby.
Ask them if they no where you can get some juiced
cause you wanna make some vineagar. Tell them you got your on mother .

Like Goose eye said, depends on the apple, also depends on the processing method. As a general rule I usually figure about 16 Lbs of apples to a gallon of juice.

Well just found an old guy that has a semi retired orchard. I get all the apples I want for almost nothing!
I better learn how to process apples. Lol

Well you better get a move on. Building or buying an efficient scratter and press can take a while.

Apple press... I was gifted about a 100 pounds of big juicy apples last week...wanting to press them but wondering if keeping them "natural" is fine. I can boil them down and soften them up first.... help please--- Oh, my press is a wine press with a 5 tonne jack... should be good to press pretty much anything worth pressing....

I wouldn't boil them. Pick them, let them sit for a week, grind and press. I have a nylon mesh bag that I use inside the press, keeps more chunks out of the juice.

Seeing as you have a wine press already, think about building two or three slatted dividers to emulate old school hessian cider presses. Their design is more efficient than wine presses.

A thick slab of rubber, e.g. a piece of car tyre, under the jack keeps the pressure on the pulp while you take a breather, light a fag, etc..

NZChris-- yes, similar to the Hessian cider press... mine has two rods up the middle and I place the 5 tonne jack on blocks on top of the grapes-- this time it'll be apples. My uncle had one that "clicked" down with pressure as you turned it...I'll have to find some photos... and only cigars my friend, no cigs for me.

NZChris: this is my grape press. My dad and a neighbor built it by hand over 50 years ago... it's currently "resting" as I'm waiting for the next pressing of apples....
