Re: Apple brandy question
I use a proof hydrometer to confirm the theoretical abv based on the temperature. It's very close.
Re: Apple brandy question
Just made another batch picked 102kg of apples I think I will not look at them for another year All squeezed by hands thru Muslim cloth and Minced in Meat machine I need some better plan next year maybe Fruit press and drill for making pulp from apples
Re: Apple brandy question
Definitely go motorized. I use a garbage disposal unit I found at a second hand store for $20. It will pulp a press full before needing a cool down for an hour but the price was right.
Re: Apple brandy question
Definitely buddy, I been thinking maybe about wood chipper or something like that and a fruit press it was a nightmare to do them apples
Re: Apple brandy question
I tried using a grape crusher last year, next time it’ll be the wood chipper!
If I didn't learn the hard way, I wouldn't learn at all!
Re: Apple brandy question
Consider how to clean whatever machine you used after it's done. You don't want apple bits festering in the nooks and crannies.
Re: Apple brandy question
11 months of planning and preparation is less stressful than a week of panic and bleeding knuckles and usually makes better product
Re: Apple brandy question
How do you mean 11 months? I pick them maybe 2 months per year, usually more than 100 kg on a day when picking, the record this year was around 300 kg in one day (from one location, maybe when I milled them I went picking to other locations, don't remember).
Re: Apple brandy question
Them apples what I picked growing in such a akward place the hill is sitting like on 90 degrees and it's all covered in black and red berries my legs was also cut not only the knuckles btw picking was not the worst part mincing apples with small machine and squeezing juice by hand was the worstCristof wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2020 1:18 amHow do you mean 11 months? Ok I admit you're good doing that by hand, I can't imagine it

I minced apples with a large machine (butcher's mincer) but I did not squeeze the pulp.
I added a little water so it wasn't too thick to handle, then a VERY little sugar just to compensate for the water.
But I distilled with gas heating, not an electric element.
