Alternative to US-05

Post by Xnerd »

Ok so, I have noticed that I am starting to get some sulfur odors now that the weather is warmed up.
My dark cold basement does not seem to do the trick for US-05 anymore.

I really like using US-05 for my corn/barley/wheat recipe.
Could anyone point me in the direction of an alternative yeast that is a little more forgiving of temps?

I was thinking about trying some plain old bread yeast.

Any thoughts?

Bakers yeast and an old blanket or comforter wrapped around the carboy for insulation works for me...

+ one on Rads post.... I like Fleischmann's yeast motto, When we rise, everybody shines! Works for me.

worked great, not sulfur smells , working off at low temps takes a while but I like it to go slow.

I dont know if Im just getting older or wiser but taking my time with stuff has become enjoyable.

I've realized that the taste I don't like, is that of bakers yeast.

I switched over to using Fermentis Safale S-04 which tastes much better and likes lower ferment temps.

I'm in wheat grain phase right now and looking to try their Safbrew WB-06 for an all wheat vodka i'm working on.
