wonder how a charred holler section of an white oak tree would work as a barrel
I use a pot still.Sometimes with a thumper

No offense taken, thm, sometimes I hate message boards & email because it's so hard to convey tone in a message. Just meant to say the idea may have been hairbrained, but wasn't drunken (not that I don't have plenty of those too!!).

Per LLC's experience and other's it sounds like a pretty futile path. Meantime I wait for my barrel to be delivered. And yes, presntation and historical tribute is a big part of using a barrel.

I intend to try a similar experiment (6-8 sided) applewood barrel. but in order to get the lumber off of the standing deadwood apple tree, I'll have to get the @*&$ing chain saw to work again. I plan to use some of the branchwood to spin some bottels on a lathe. That might suite your needs if your chum has such equiptment and time.

mmhmm, that could work possum for small quantities. my buddy has a lathe. let us know how it goes.

NO I HAVENT HEARD, (ARTIST OR AUTHOR?) BUT I HAVE EATEN ROADKILLED RABBIT AND PHEASENT---BUT ONLY WHEN THEY WERE KILLED IN MY SIGHT. I'M MUCH PICKIER THAN THE AVERAGE POSSUM.
