Re: Carbon filtering rum

I have been running dark rum through a quick pass carbon filter to very positive results. No loss of color or the flavors I'm seeking but a definite reduction in off flavors and smoothness. I run the rum through a funnel containing the carbon and a cheesecloth liner into another funnel containing a coffee filter to gather any particulate that makes it through. The carbon filter funnel fills but drains very quickly with a solid steam being output. I filtered a batch that had been aging since Xmas using this method with some friends over the weekend and everyone was really impressed with the immediate positive impact.
