filtering ujssm and sweetfeed whisky

I havnt seem any posts on here, but this old bloke bloke that does homebrew whisky thinks im crazy and killing myself by poisoning my kidneys by not carbon filtering my spirits? Any grounds for his argument?

No, he obviously has been drinking the fores right off the still

Not if your following the recipes as posted, not using Turbo yeast and the like.
The resin for carbon filtering is to remove undesirable fusels and esters that you get from Turbo or running to high an ABV in your wash.
Use Bakers yeast or Distillers yeast and keep the ABV to 10% and take some care in your cuts and you don't need to filter.
Might be good not to drink the fores

As long as you are making proper cuts. Carbon filtering is not needed at all.
And drinking alcohol is poisoning your kidneys any way you look at it.

Some of the things uneducated people say. Just makes me laugh.

And carbon filtering doesn't really remove just those things. It really only makes them taste a little better. So in all actuality. What he told you is complete and utter BS.

+1 on what Prariepiss stated...

Carbon filtering will remove smells, tastes, and sediment, but won't remove any real toxins that might be in there... It can't remove Foreshots, Heads, or Tails...

Time to do your research here and then teach the old-timer a thing or three... :ewink:
