Charred Oak Barrel

Post by Wino2Distill »

I was gifted a 20L charred american oak barrel for christmas (I'm a lucky boy :D ). As a winemaker, I understand oak barrel pretty well, but charred?!

This is a curve ball as I've gearing up to distill ciders and other fruit ferments. I guess I'm supposed to make whiskey now, but do you guys know if charred barrels are used for anything else??

If the barrel has been charred, it's worthless, ruined beyond repair. BUT, I'm willing to take it off your hands. Ha

That's what I use for brandy, rum, whisky.

Rum is normally in a used barrel.. so might want to make a batch of whiskey first and then do rum.
