Sherrying Whiskey vs. Sherrying Rum

Post by Spirit-ualMindset »

Hey all,

Does whiskey take longer to sherry than rum? I would think so, since rum is already sweeter coming off the still. Thanks!

Who says rum is sweeter off the still?

No sugar comes through during distillation.

I'm not familiar with the term " Sherrying" nor have I seen it used in relation to distilling or aging spirit before.
Can you elaborate?

Found this an interesting read, not sure if it is what the OP was referring to

Yes I know about that Sporacle......just not the terminology " sherrying" To me that could mean adding sherry to the new make after putting it in the barrel.

Sorry, we were in a huge rush when I posted that waaaaay back! Let me clear it up, and forget what I said about distilling.

We sherry our whiskey and rum in sherry barrels, and our rum tends to be much sweeter, but we’re changing a lot about a lot of our processes. I simply want to know your opinions, in regards to the sweetness of the final product, would you sherry whiskey longer than rum, about the same, or shorter? Thanks!
