Suger again maybe a lame question. Confection sugar!

Sugar, and all about sugar washes. Where the primary ingredient is sugar, and other things are just used as nutrients.

Suger again maybe a lame question. Confection sugar!

Post by Blackgrub79 »

So at times of the year around me confectionery sugar costs less then regular sugar. I have used both and the confectionery sugar does work and taste different then regular sugar.

It dissolves much quicker than regular sugar, but in the past even adding it to something as simple as iced tea has made the flavor taste much different than it would be if you just had regular sugar!

Like to hear you knowledge on this!

Blackgrub,

From what I know confectionery sugar is the same as regular sugar, just milled/ground finer. I do alot of cooking and have seen a bunch of recipes that tell you "If you don't have confectionery sugar just add sugar to your food processor, for 5 or 6 pulses" There different grades of confectionery sugar from XXX to 10X and that's just the fineness of the crystals.
If it is worth doing, then it is worth overdoing.

My Confectioners Sugar contains cornstarch. Not good IMHO.

What makes it not good? Curious.

I Googled and it says, "To make homemade powdered sugar, you'll need two ingredients: granulated sugar and cornstarch. The magic ratio is 1 cup granulated sugar to 1 tablespoon cornstarch".

What does corn starch do to make it not good?

Having never used it I wouldn’t be able to say either way.
I think confectioner sugar tastes a little funky. Like, chemical or acrid ore bitter or something. I didn’t know it contained cornstarch. Maybe that’s what I’m tasting.
Freedom had been hunted round the globe; reason was considered as rebellion; and the slavery of fear had made men afraid to think. But such is the irresistible nature of truth, that all it asks, and all it wants, is the liberty of appearing.

I guess I need to be more specific. Sorry for the half answer. I was referring to its use in sweetening spirits. I think the corn starch would cause a sediment in my bottle.

Now I love confectioners sugar in fudge. It’s really good there.
