molasses weight = how much sugar weight

Sugar, and all about sugar washes. Where the primary ingredient is sugar, and other things are just used as nutrients.

molasses weight = how much sugar weight

Post by SchmuBrew »

When using the sugar wash calculators it only allows sugar weight,

This might be a really simple/dumb question but can I assume then that 1kg molasses with 42% fermentables would equal to .42 kg sugar?

Or is there another calculator that allows me to enter different types of fermentables? (can I use my brewtoad beer calculator?)

Thanks in advance

.

This is the ratio I found a while back:
20g Molasses = 15g Sugar

it really depends on the mole ass.the fancier product is a higher % sugar, therefore less water and solids. which makes any way of measuring variable by the %

the packages i get say 45% sugar, so i'd take it as you did - assumption is 10kg of moleass is 4.5kg sugar. calculate your wash by that (weight) as opposed trying to use a hydrometer. i don't have a refracto-thingy so i dunno if they work. but the weight and Rad's calcs on the parent site will get you really close.
I finally quit drinking for good.

now i drink for evil.

If that's what it says on the container ... yes.

Use a calculator to work out the fermentables in the wash, then take the OG and work out the approximate FG to expect when it is finished. This helps with diagnosis if you suspect something has gone wrong.

molasses weight = how much sugar weight ??
That can depend on many things such as is it fancy or food grade molasses.
Or is it Stock feed / Blackstrap.
Different sugar mills in different countries and locations are better or worse at extracting sugar from the molasses so that also effects whats left for us to use as distillers.
In short there are many many variables.
You can normally use 50% as a rough guide.

It is feed grade, labeled as minimum sugar 42%.

thank you all for clarifying.

Not all sugar is fermentable, so to be 42% fermentable the brix should be a lot higher, but I can't see the label from where I'm sitting.
